Bananas, Ready For Take-Off

Dear Laney,

You just never know where a night at the Burbach house is going to take you.

Had you asked me around 6pm what the highlight of the night would be, I would have guessed dinner, because I was making Sweet and Sour Shrimp with Firecracker Green Beans:

But here's the thing: your dad doesn't have school this month...so all the time he would normally spend in the evening thinking about rocks or maps or whatever the heck he's studying is now free for other pursuits. Like converting your banana box into a model aircraft with the help of a Triscuit box. Here he is inserting the rudder:

Your reaction to this project ranged from mild disinterest to complete bewilderment, with a frozen yogurt break in between (note the judicious use of the yogurt koozie).

But you have to give the guy credit - he even cut out and colored you a propeller that actually spins.

After you went to bed, I watched the Sugar Bowl and had a big glass of...oh, let's just say it was punch. And that's when your dad (Navy call sign: "Hammer") mysteriously disappeared into the basement only to reappear and make my night by doing this:

Had he only known back when he was in Officer Training School that he would end up with his butt wedged in a banana box...

Over and out,
Mom
