How Cold IS It?

Dear Laney,

I guess cold is one of those subjective things. If we asked your dad what the temp was like outside, he would say "a little chilly." If you asked me the same question, I would use words that shouldn't be employed on a baby blog.

You and I haven't so much as stepped foot outside for the past two days. We haven't even gotten as far as the mudroom. That's because the last time I ventured all the way to the car, this was the display on the dash:

That is indeed a negative sign in front of that 9.

Also, there's the small matter of your dad going out to chop firewood and coming back with ICE GROWING ON HIS FACE. No, gracias.

The only one who really seems to be appreciating the Arctic conditions is Gus, who has fashioned himself a little headrest in the snow.

If you're looking for Ella, who has the body of a Husky but the soul of a Bassett Hound, you'll find her taking a nap under the TV.

Today, we got this picture in an e-mail from Grandma Sue, who is vacationing in Hawaii with your great-grandpa Ron.

I should have made this one of those "Life Lessons" posts, and titled it "Life Isn't Fair." And the secondary Life Lesson would be: If you meet a man who says he's already built his dream home, don't be so blinded by love that you forget to ask A LOT OF FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS.

Love,
Mom
